DDSP will be happy to welcome volunteers

 

Volunteer profile:

DDSP needs special educators, therapists (physio-, occupational-, speech therapists,...), dance teachers, sport teachers, social workers.

People interested in the NGO's work and who want to bring something (engineers, artists,...) are also welcome. 

Volunteers couples are accepted.

 

How many volunteers at a time ?

One or two volunteers at a time.

 

Cost of the volunteering

DDSP do not charge anything. The volunteer is free to donate any amount. Here below there are concrete examples of how a volunteer can help:

 

• US$10 - can pay for one child’s travel subsidy for a month, helping their parents cover the cost

of traveling between home and the Day Centre

 

• US$12 can buy a simple ceramic water filter for a family to access clean drinking water

 

• US$18 can buy a better ceramic water filter for a family to access clean drinking water

 

• US$30 - can pay for a nutritious lunch each day for one child with a disability, for one month.

 

• US$80 can buy one wheelchair

 

• US$100 - can cover the salary for one DDSP special teacher, for one month.

 

• US$ 100 can pay for the salary for the Tuk-Tuk driver to collect children/youth with disability

• US$150 can buy a good breed sow (female pig) which can benefit a group of two families

 

• US$ 450 can buy a female cow-breed which can benefit a group of four families.

 

• US$ 300 - will pay for a year’s supply of therapy aids and toys, for a classroom for children with

disabilities.

 

• US$ 500 - will provide one Parent Group with a ‘start-up grant’ to establish an income generation

project.

 

• US$ 500 - will allow DDSP to build a playground for children with and without disabilities to

enjoy in a rural school.

 

What will the volunteer do?

The volunteer will be asked to help the organisation's staff and partner staff with working with children with disability in the Special Education's class, help with deaf education, inclusive education, work in the physiotherapy centre, in the CBR day care centre or doing home visit in the countryside to the people helped by DDSP. They will also help the NGO in communication for funding, newsletter writing, report and proposal editing, English teaching and providing training of new skills and knowledge to DDSP's staff.

 

Are there any food and accommodation arrangements?

DDSP can arrange them the accommodation, food and transportation but the volunteer has to pay for it. For a room in a Hotel near DDSP's office the cost is 7 Dollars per night with fan (air conditioning rooms are also available). Food is around 1-3 Dollars in a restaurant. However, internet is available in the office during working time. Transportation from the office to DDSP’s target areas is organized from the NGO.
